My name is Rachel Gonzalez and I am a ceramic artist living and working in Lorain, OH.
I studied at Denison University and graduated in 2016 with a BA in Studio Art. I first fell in love with ceramics after taking a wheel throwing class my sophomore year in college. Ever since then, I have continued to create and experiment with clay.
Since graduating I worked as an artist in residence with Forrest and Jeni Gard in the Gard Clay Studios in Columbus, OH from winter 2016 to fall 2017. While working in the Gard Clay Studios I focused on creating a line of wheel thrown and handbuilt planters.
This past spring (2018) I had the opportunity to be an artist in residence at the Zentrum fur Keramik in Berlin, Germany. I spent two and a half months in Germany researching fairytales written by the Brothers Grimm and creating a body of work based off of these fairytales.
After returning home to Ohio in June, I spent my summer making work and selling it at different maker markets. This holiday season I will continue to pop up around Cleveland selling my work and I will also have work available on my online shop.
My goal is to continue making beautiful work that will add beauty to whatever new home it finds.
